Supercool Movable Fish!
For our second print, we chose a movable fish skeleton from Thingiverse (see link below). One of our students will be studying fish in Science with their class after Christmas. So, this item will provide a good tactile example of what a fish skeleton is like and how it moves.
The instructions on Thingiverse recommended using a "raft" to make removal of the object from the platform easier (with less chance of breakage of the small fish bones). We researched what a raft was and it seems to be a platform that you can buy or print that sits on the glass platform and supports the object that is being printed. Unable to find a raft to print after a quick look, we tried printing the fish without a raft. We placed the platform with the blue painters tape up (with no adhesive) and it worked well. The fish took 55 minutes to print. We had to be gentle when prying the finished fish off of the platform, using the metal spatula, but it held together. We were amazed at how the fish came off the printer, ready to wiggle and move (no assembly required). So cool!
