Top Hat

Today, we printed a tiny top hat for a future snowman. We found a snowman on Thingiverse that includes separate pieces for a hat, a carrot nose, and 5 pieces of coal for buttons and eyes. Hopefully, students will be able to put the snowman together and take it apart like a puzzle once all the pieces are printed. We will use it with stories and songs about snowmen. The hat printed without any problems. The inside of the hat has filling in it, perhaps just for support while printing, or perhaps to help it stay on the snowman's head. The blue painter's tape ripped when I was using the spatula to pry the hat off of the platform. The tape has worn well through at least 5 prints. It was easy to peel off just the one strip that was ripped. So, painter's tape seems like an inexpensive and effective way to help printed objects stay in place.
